Anti-Wrinkle Injections | ||
The procedure is performed with the patient sitting upright, so as to best observe skin creases and wrinkles. A few drops of BotulinumToxin Type A are injected via a tiny needle into the muscle that creates a wrinkle. This blocks the nerve impulses from reaching the muscle, thus weakening the muscle. Patients may experience a minor sting for a few seconds at the time of injection. Other local symptoms such as pain at the injection sites and some mild bruising and redness may also be experienced. No severe reactions to treatment have been reported, although minor allergic reactions do happen. Slight drooping of the eyelid is a very rare, reversible complication. Typically, the muscle relaxation/weakening takes effect within 24-72 hours after injection and usually lasts for 3-6 months.
