
The following hints help to prevent skin cancer, the most common form of cancer in Ireland, and ensure your skin retains its youthful appearance for as long as possible.
- Cover up when out in the sun. Wear a wide brimmed hat, cover your neck and wear clothing made of a close weave material.
- Use sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of 15 or higher. Ensure it has UVA and UVB protection and reapply every two hours (or more frequently if swimming or sweating).
- Avoid being out in the sun between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
- Don’t smoke! If you are a smoker seek help in stopping smoking from your doctor or at least reduce your consumption as much as possible.
- Ensure you get at least a moderate level of exercise daily.
